Housing Survey student responder wins laptop in random drawing
by Jan Janes on Aug 9, 2021“When they called to tell me I won, I asked ‘ which survey?’” said Cessaria Gomez, Gavilan College allied health student. She said she responds to lots of surveys and was glad to participate.
Cessaria Gomez met with Dr. Kathleen Rose, Gavilan College Superintendent/
President to receive the Dell laptop offered by Servitas. Gomez was selected
from a random drawing of students who completed the survey.
Gomez will complete the rest of her preparatory course work this fall and apply to the Registered Nursing program at Gavilan in February 2022. As a parent of a four-year-old, she said she was glad the survey asked questions about both single students and families.
The survey was a questionnaire about housing needs managed by Servitas. They met with Dr. Rose prior to the COVID pandemic.
According to Dr. Rose, the questions pertained to student housing needs in Gilroy and in San Benito County, where Gavilan College is building a new campus.
“Student housing is something we wanted to research,” said Dr. Rose. “Servitas surveyed the students’ about their needs and the feasibility of residential housing.”
All Gavilan College students received the survey, and about 5% responded.
Questions included the need for individual housing and family housing. For the San Benito County campus, questions also asked about faculty housing.
